Personally, I think that one thing we must begin to address is our growing ELL population. I'm not sure we're doing "whatever it takes" to help these students make the most of their academic potential. I understand that we're going to be utilizing a different delivery model this year for those students, but that's only for 45 minutes/day. We need to honestly assess what we should be doing during those other hours to meet the needs of these students.

What are your suggestions???
Teachers,

Now that you've had a relaxing summer, it's time to jump right back in with our first dinner dialogue of the year. Remember we'll be dining on August 11 at 6 pm and will begin discussing our first book, Whatever it takes: How professional learning communities respond when kids don't learn by Rebecca DuFour, Robert Eaker, Gayle Karhanek, & Richard DuFour.

So what are we doing on this blog? Hopefully this will give us a safe space to begin discussing the book before we meet face-to-face as an entire group. There are some thought-provoking ideas in this book. We need to be able to honestly assess where we are as a school so that we can meet the needs of ALL of OUR learners.
